The Faders

What type of crossfader is used in the Seventy A-Trak Edition?

The Rane DJ Seventy A-Trak Edition comes complete with (3) contactless MAG FOUR tension-adjustable faders (2 channel/line faders, 1 crossfader).

Is the crossfader user-replaceable?

All the MAG FOUR faders on the Seventy A-Trak Edition are fully user-replaceable and interchangeable.

Is this the same crossfader used in older Rane mixers?

No. The Rane DJ Seventy A-Trak Edition is shipped with our newly designed MAG FOUR contactless faders. The carrier is made out of a stronger composite material designed to be 160 times stronger than the magnetic faders in our older Rane DJ mixers.

Can I set the cut-in for the faders?

The Cut-In controls the amount of dead space between a fader's closed and open positions. You can adjust the Cut-In positions on the Seventy A-Trak Edition through the LCD display menu by selecting the Cut-In Adjust option. You also have the option to adjust the Cut-In positions within the Rane Seventy A-Trak Edition Control Panel and save your setting as a preset. Visit our article here for more instructions on removing the crossfader and making adjustments.

Flex and Touch FX

What are Flex FX?

The Rane DJ Seventy A-Trak Edition has built in internal Flex FX that allow you to easily take control of your performance and apply a little extra creativity. You can customize the default state of each effect individually by using the Flex FX option in the Seventy A-Trak Edition menu. Here you can change settings like the cutoff amount, feedback and depth, and even turn unused FX off so it's easier to find your favorites in a pinch. The internal Flex FX include:

  • Echo
  • Hold Echo
  • Duck Echo
  • Reverb
  • Brake
  • Phaser
  • Flanger
  • Fader FX (see below for details)

Note: The Flex FX on the SEVENTY A-Trak Edition are post-fader.

What are Fader FX?

With Fader FX, the Seventy A-Trak Edition mixer's upfaders are transformed into linear controllers for performance effects like Filter, Roll, Pitch, Ring Modulator, and four types of Oscillators. DJs can dive into the settings of these Fader FX options to change root keys, octaves, and more.

Can I stack Serato effects with the internal Flex FX?

Yes! Serato FX and the internal Flex FX can be stacked simply by turning them all on. Using the effect routing feature at the top of the display, you can even assign all 8 effect slots to a single deck/channel.

Note: The software effects are pre-fader.

What is the benefit of two Flex FX engines?

The Rane Seventy A-Trak Edition pushes the bar with 2 independent Flex FX engines. Unlike previous Rane DJ mixers, having two independent effect engines means the ability to assign different effects to each deck independently. But with the additional routing options, you also have the option to assign both Flex FX engines to the same deck, giving you a total of 2 internal effects, and 6 Serato effects that can be assigned to a single simultaneously.

Performance Pads

What can I do with the Performance Pads?

The Rane DJ Seventy A-Trak Edition has 16 Akai Pro performance pads, 8 on each deck and with individual mode controls. See the list below for the different pad modes and a quick description of the functions.

  • Hot Cue: Each pad assigns a hot cue point or returns the track to that hot cue point.
  • Pitch Play: Each pad plays the track from a hot cue point at a different transposition (adjustable by semitones). You can use this if you have installed the Serato Pitch ‘n Time DJ Expansion Pack.
  • Saved Loops:  Hold Shift and press Auto Loop / Man Loop to access Saved Loops. In this mode, all 8 pads are used to activate or deactivate a saved loop.
  • Flip: If you have purchased the Serato Flip Expansion Pack, you can access the Flip control by holding Shift and pressing Sampler / Fader FX (4). If you have not purchased the Flip Expansion Pack, this will be available as a Custom Pad mode.
  • Roll: Each pad triggers a momentary loop roll.
  • Sampler: The pads will control the sampler in the software. The pads each trigger a sample at a specified volume (you can assign the sample and its volume in the software).
  • Scratch Bank In Scratch Bank Mode, each pad loads a song or sample to the selected deck. You can assign the song and set the starting point in the software. This is useful for preparing and performing with song samples for scratching.
  • Transport:  The pads correspond to different transport controls. The software will automatically enter Internal Mode when you do this (if you are using a Twelve controller with the Seventy A-Trak Edition, the software will always be in Internal Mode).
  • Custom Pad Sets: You can create up to 2 customized Pad Sets using Serato DJ Pro's MIDI mapping feature.

Can I set Pad Modes differently between decks?

Yes. Each deck has its own identical sets of pad modes that are assigned per deck.

Can I customize the pad colors?

The pad colors can be customized in the Cue Mode using the Serato DJ software. Right-click the Cue Point trigger button for color options.

What are the custom pad sets?

The Custom Pad Sets mode allows you to MIDI assign a pad to a Serato DJ Pro function of your choice. This is a great way to bring additional versatility and control to your performance without the need for a secondary MIDI controller.

Effects Toggle Switches

What do the effects toggle switches do?

The Seventy A-Trak Edition includes dual die-cast aluminum FX paddles for quick and easy effect triggering. Once the Flex and/or Serato effect(s) have been activated on the effects screen (press the corresponding FX button to the left or right of the display), use the toggle switch to apply the effects to the channel.

Flip the toggle switch up, or away from you, to latch the effect on, or flip and hold the switch in the down position, towards you, to temporarily apply the effect. Release the toggle back to the center position to deactivate the effects.

Can I reverse the operation of the switches?

For some performers, the toggle switches may be easier to operate if the latch and hold settings were in opposite positions: latch in the down position and hold in the up position. In order to make the Seventy A-Trak Edition as flexible as possible, the two switches can easily be removed and flipped 180 degrees to reverse the operation.

Control Panel and Preferences

Where can I download the Control Panel?

If you are running Serato DJ Pro 2.5.6 or higher, the software will prompt you to install the control panel and driver once the Seventy A-Trak Edition is connected to the computer. The Seventy A-Trak Edition Control Panel can also be downloaded directly from the Seventy A-Trak Edition product page, under the Downloads tab.

What can I do with the Control Panel?

The Rane DJ Seventy A-Trak Edition Control Panel will give you access to virtually every setting in the mixer including fader cut-in, deck settings, and more, as well as indicators for USB connectivity and optimization options like buffer size.

Do I need to use the Control Panel app?

Technically no, but it is recommended so you can create a backup of your settings. The control panel application allows you to make deeper adjustments to your Seventy A-Trak Edition and save your changes to a preset file on your computer to be recalled later on. Saving a backup can be useful if you use the Seventy A-Trak Edition in different settings where different presets may be necessary, or even if you just want to recall your settings after every show.

Can I save a backup of my preferences?

Yes and we recommend doing this whenever you make crucial changes to your settings. The control panel makes it extremely easy to save and load your backup settings file to a new Seventy A-Trak Edition or restore your current unit back to your preferred settings. This makes it easy to reset your mixer the next time you trade-off with another DJ.

Additional Questions

Is there a ducking/talk-over option for the mic inputs on the Seventy A-Trak Edition?

You can set the amount of volume reduction in the Utility menu on the Seventy A-Trak Edition. To activate the Duck feature, press and hold the Mic 1 On button for 2 seconds.
